How to Reduce High Phosphorus Level for Dialysis PatientPhosphorus, a mineral found in the body, usually won’t become higher than the normal until patients’ medical condition develops stage 4 or stage 5 Kidney Disease, thereby, how to reduce high phosphorus level becomes a big concern for those patients who are on dialysis.

How to reduce high phosphorus level for dialysis patient?

Phosphorus in the body is mainly from the foods that we eat, so limiting the high-phosphorus foods is good to reduce high phosphorus level. According to the phosphorus content, foods are divided into two types:

High-phosphorus foods: Spices, mushrooms, seafood, bean products, nuts, dairy, etc, all belong to this kind of foods.

Low-phosphorus foods: Apple, honey, the spirit of honeydew melon, Chinese cabbage, white gourd, kelp, mango, etc, all contribute to low-phosphorus foods.

The doctors usually prescribe some medicines called phosphorus binders that are like sponges to help keep the blood level of phosphorus in a healthy range. In some cases, the doctor may also recommended an active form of vitamin D, called calcitriol, to help balance the calsium and phosphorus levels. With the combination of a healthy diet and correct medications, high phosphorus level usually comes down, but the damaged kidney function still doesn’t recover. In view of this, the most important thing for these patients should be how to repair damaged kidney function.

All those above measures are helpful for reducing the high phosphorus level for dialysis patient, but if the patient want to relieve all of those symptoms caused by dialysis, they’d better take an alternative treatment of dialysis.
