2014-04-13 11:33

Prognosis of Purpura NephritisPurpura Nephritis refers to the kidney damage caused by Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP). In clinic, skin purpura, joint pain, stomachache and some symptoms of renal damage are cmmon to see. Some severe cases may even worsen into impaired renal function. Besides, renal involvement may occurs in a few days to several weeks after the skin purpura.

HSP is a disease that most commonly affects children. The incidence of HSP in children is about 20 per 100,000 children per year, making it the most common vasculitis in children. Many parents are suffering of receiving the treatments or waiting the final diagnosis. They are is of great concern to their children’s prognosis.

Actually, prognosis of Purpura Nephritis patients are closely related to the pathological changes of the kidney. According to incomplete statistics, these symptoms in about 52% of patients can be relieves completely within 1 years after the onset of the disease. About 15% of patients may suffer from gross hematuria and proteinuria. In addition, about 18% of patients may be diagnosed with persistent microscopic hematuria and microalbuminuria.

For children with Purpura Nephritis, about 70%-80% of them will be relieved completely. And about 15% of patients’ kidneys will be damaged.

The main factors that will influence the prognosis of Purpura Nephritis patients are as follows:

1. The prognosis of children is better than adult patients.

2. If patients are diagnosed with massive proteinuria or accompanied by high blood pressure, their prognosis is worse.

3. According to the research, there are 40% of patients with more than 4 level may worsen into chronic renal insufficiency.
