Diagnostic Criteria for DN

Nephropathy means kidney disease or damage. DN is damage to your kidneys caused by diabetes. In severe cases it can lead to kidney failure. But not everyone with diabetes has kidney damage. If you have high blood pressure or high cholesterol, or if you smoke, your risk is higher.

There are no symptoms in the early stage. So it's important to have regular urine tests to find kidney damage early. Sometimes early kidney damage can be reversed.

Generally, Patients with diabetic experience proteinuria persistently or intermittently, renal function obstacle, they can be diagnosed as Diabetic Nephropathy. Early diagnosis criteria of Diabetic Nephropathy is persistent microalbuminuria(30~300mg/24h). When urinary albumin excretion rate of patient is 20~200ug/min and proteinuria is greater than 0.5g/24h, this indicates patients have entered into clinical kidney disease.
