What Are the Symptoms of Chronic Renal Failure

Chronic Renal Failure is referred to the process that the major functions of kidney begin to progressively and irreversibly decline, and a series of symptoms and metabolic disorders occur in this process until the functions are totally lost. For patients with CRF, many obvious symptoms can occur in every stage.

1.Symptoms in nerve system:

Symptoms in early stages of CRF may be insomnia, attention-deficit disorder and hypomnesis, and in later stage symptoms like headache, somnolence and coma may appear.

2.Symptoms in digestive system:

Patient may have symptoms like nausea, vomit, loss of appetite, and urine taste in mouth. Some patients may have symptom of bleeding in digestive tract, which is mainly caused by erosion of peptic ulcer in gastrointestinal tract.

3.Symptoms in cardiovascular system:

Patient may find he gets heart failure, high blood pressure, and atherosclerosis, etc. These diseases are mainly caused by acidosis, anemia and the accumulation of poisonous substances.

4.Symptoms in respiratory system:

Symptoms like short breath, deep breath and pulmonary edema may be found. The major reasons of these diseases are fluid volume excess, acidosis, and cardiac insufficiency.

5.Symptoms about skin:

High phosphorus level, high parathormone level, and the poisonous substances in blood may cause skin itch. Patient may also have dry skin, which is mainly caused by the reducing of body fluid.

6.Metabolic disorders of water, electrolytes and acid-base:

Patient may have metabolic acidosis, which is caused by glomeruli excreting hydrogen ion abnormally or the decline of glomerular absorption to HCO3-. Many metabolic disorders also appear in the process, such as water, sodium, potassium,calcium and phosphorus, etc.

7.Metabolic disorders of protein and sugar:

The major presentation of protein metabolic disorders are azotemia, the decline of serum albumin level and the decline of necessary amino acid level. Metabolic disorders of sugar mainly behave as the decrease of sugar tolerance and hypoglycemia.
